Straw

Uniform with straw-coloured facings.

Straw (French paille), the colour of straw, a pale, desaturated yellow colour, darker and more yellowish than ventre de biche; also adjective: straw-coloured. The blue uniform coat of Bavarian Infanterie-Regiment von Morawitzky displays the straw facing colour on the collar, lapels, cuffs, turnbacks and shoulder-strap.

Prussian Infanterie-Regiment No. 5 had straw-coloured facings, whereas Infanterie-Regiment No. 13 was distinguished by pale straw. 18th century foot troops typically wore straw-coloured breeches, imitating deerskin. Figure painters use yellow ochre or traffic yellow (RAL 1023) more or less tinted with white to depict the colour of straw.
