Hesse-Darmstadt Life Guard Regiment (1. Großherzoglich Hessisches) Nr. 115
The Leibgarde monument outside the Schloss in Darmstadt, Germany, honours the officers and men of the Leibgarde-Infanterie-Regiment who died in the two World Wars. Raised and uniformed in 1621, the Hessen-Darmstadt Leibgarde-Infanterie-Regiment was the oldest body of regular infantry. Stone plaques on either side of the pedestal list the regiment’s battle honours of the Great War and World War Two. These inscriptions are summerized below.
