Palankas

Palanka (Turkish palanka, Hungarian palánk, French palanque), or stockade, a type of fortification often found in Hungary and Turkey, where it is used to enclose a small town, in lue of a town wall. Palankas are palisades, driven into the ground close to each other; the reverse is backfilled to create a breastwork, and held in place by the palisades.

Scale Model Palankas

Palankas are easily scratchbuilt, using homemade palisade stakes made of hardwood (s. “How to Scratch-Build Wooden Palisades”), twigs, dowelling, bamboo or birchwood skewers, matchsticks, split model timber, broom bristles, polystyrene rod, wire or piano wire of the proper scale height and width.
