Brittling and Front Axle Breakage of a Timpo Stagecoach

Plastic Corrosion due to Oxygen and UV Radition

Brittling and Breakage of the Front Axle of a Timpo Stagecoach

The front axle of this Timpo stagecoach snapped off under minimal stress, separating both front wheels from the forward train. The drawbar had broken off earlier, due to material fatigue. The double axle breakage may be repaired, at least temporarily, by boring open the broken pieces and inserting brass or pianowire pegs into them. Plastic corrosion will continue, however, and it is only a matter of time before the entire forward train of the stagecoach will disintegrate.
