Cap, Comforter
Cap, Comforter, the British Army wool-knitted tube scarf introduced in the late 19th century, which can be worn as a scarf or cap. The image shows two Airfix 1:32 scale British Commandos wearing the tube scarf in different ways. The soldier on the right has folded the scarf so that a 3″ long flap protrudes at the top, which was then folded over and tucked into the right side of the cap. The other soldier has folded the scarf over so that the closed end is flush with the top edge of the cap. When worn this way, the raised tips of the closed end are clearly visible.
In the modern British Army, the Cap, Comforter has been replaced by the Snood/Headover tube scarf with two open ends. However, the Cap Comforter is still worn in units associated with the Commandos today.
