Croissant

Croissant.
Sunday, 7 June 1762, outside Wesel: a croissant on the fortress glacis is surprised by Hessian chasseurs at daybreak, but is successfully held by its French garrison, the Chasseurs de Sombreuil.

Croissant (French, crescent), a semicircular work that Bernard de Bélidor places in front of the salient angles of the covered way, where it forms a second covered way. It is also found in the main ditch in front of the points of the bastions, featuring a parapet that slopes down to form a glacis.
