Kestenholz (French: Châtenois), a town in the [former] German district of Lower Alsace, district and canton of Schlettstadt, at the foot of the Vosges (entrance to the Weilertal) and on the Schlettstadt–Markirch railway, has a Catholic church, manufacturing of wool cloth, cotton and silk, cotton cleaning rags, brick factory, sawmills and grinding mills, mineral springs at 18°, containing table salt, iodine and bromine as well as a bath (Bad Bronn), viticulture and (1900) 2741 Catholic residents. Above the town is the Hahnenberg hill.
