Rearview Mirrors

Rearview mirrors (rear-view mirror, side-view mirrors) are often missing on small-scale vehicle models, because the necessary brackets cannot be accurately represented with standard plastic or are too easily broken. The side-view mirrors themselves can be convincingly depicted using wafer-thin slices of a 1 mm polystyrene rod. For the mirror arms, we use 0.25 mm piano wire or fine brush bristles. On the schwere Wehrmachtsschlepper (sWS) and some other vehicles, the side-view mirrors are mounted directly to the Peilstangen guide rods.

For the side-view mirrors on third-generation Bundeswehr vehicles, we use thin slices of 1.5 × 3 mm polystyrene strip, the edges of which have been rounded off beforehand with a needle file.
On many trucks, the side-view mirrors are mounted on the front window frame of the driver‘s and passenger‘s doors. Careful drilling and clean gluing are necessary to ensure a stable and realistic connection. It may be required to insert the mirror arm into a vertical or slightly angled hole in the driver‘s door and bend the visible end into the desired position.
