Reflectors
Reflectors (retroreflectors) are signaling devices mounted at the rear of vehicles that reflect the headlights of following vehicles to reduce the risk of rear-end collisions. The photo shows retrofitted reflectors on Airfix 1:76 scale Scimitar armoured recce vehicles. These homemade parts are thin slices shaved from a 1.5 mm polystyrene rod.
Section 53, paragraph 4 of the German Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung (StVZO) road traffic licensing regulations stipulates that vehicles must be equipped with two rear reflectors. Trailers must be equipped with two red triangular reflectors; the side length of such reflectors must be at least 150 mm, and the apex of the triangle must point upwards.
