Schalavary or Scharawaden (German; from Hungarian sáravalo, derived from sár, meaning mud or dirt): leg coverings used by hussars, worn like tights over leather breeches. The Prussian Malachowski Hussar (H7) shown here is wearing light-blue Schalavary that extend to the thigh.
