Dory

Dory (Greek), the 2 to 3 m long spear of the hoplites, tapering to a double-edged point at the front, the other end of which was also armed with an iron shoe, the so-called sauroter (lizard-killer). Hence doryphoroi (spear-bearers), the warriors armed with the dory.
