Doryphoroi
Doryphoroi (from Greek dory, hence “spear-bearers”), trabants, bodyguards.

The name Doryphoros is also borne by a famous statue by Polykleitos, which survives in several replicas (Naples, Rome, London, etc.) and represents one of the most powerful male figures in ancient art (see illustration). It served as a model for artists in terms of proportions and therefore received the epithet Canon. See also Diadumenos.
