ROCO 1:87 Scale Vehicle Review

Truck, Cargo, 2½-ton, 6×6, M35, 1:87 H0 ROCO 116.

The ROCO 1:87 scale M35 truck, cargo, 2½-ton, 6×6 differs from its predecessor, the GMC CCKW “Deuce-and-a-half”, by its modern engine hood, square fenders, doors on the cab, and rectangular hood sticks under the tarpaulin.

Evaluation

Scale model with good details, removable windscreen and removable soft top.

Cheap source of an important vehicle for wargamers and collectors. Good quality; minimal mould lines, but sprue on tires and other parts need to be removed before painting.

Assembled model. Wheels need to be immobilized to prevent the vehicle from rolling around on wargame terrain pieces. Spare tires and jerrycans should be glued in place. The truck is suitable for numerous modifications.

Taillights, stop lights, direction indicator lights, reflectors, and the license plate holder are missing at the rear of the truck.

Apart from the hood, which is sloped like that of the GMC CCKW-353 or the Studebaker US6 2½-ton, 6×6 truck, the cab is a relatively good match for the M35. However, ROCO has since released a much more accurate, and more expensive model of the M35 cargo truck.

Sharp sprues on the headlight guards should be removed before painting. The front indicator lights are missing; they could be retrofitted to the front fenders. The blackout driving light next to the left headlight is missing as well.

Compatible with HO scale model railway equipment and miniatures by Faller, Märklin, Noch, Pola, Preiser, and ROCO.

The ROCO model of the M35 truck, cargo, 2½-ton, 6×6 is readily available, inexpensive, and quite robust. Wargamers typically need a large number of these trucks to move supplies, infantry, and artillery.
