Evaluation
Good choice of subject, the KV-85 is unique in this scale.
Sold fully assembled, ready to play. The model comes with toy-like carpet rollers which need to be removed to make the heavy tank sit on its tracks convincingly. Cover the resulting holes in the underside with free 0.25 mm polystyrene sheet taken from a yoghurt cup.
Roskopf used the hull of the KV-1A heavy tank to create this KV-85 heavy tank. However, a modified KV-1S hull with a central driver position would have been the correct choice.
None of the 7.62 mm DT machine guns – on the bow, coaxial to the right of the gun, and on the turret rear – are correctly represented in the model; the armoured covers on the bow and turret rear are present, but the missing gun barrels need to be scratchbuilt from piano wire.
Compatibel with Battlefront Miniatures (Flames of War, Team Yankee), Essex Miniatures, Eureka Miniatures, Forged in Battle, Irregular Miniatures, Old Glory, Peter Pig, Plastic Soldier Company, Skytrex (Command Decision), Wargames Factory, Quality Castings, Quick Reaction Force (QRF), Zvezda, and similar 15/18 mm or 1:100 scale miniatures.
The Roskopf KV-85 heavy tank is best suited for wargamers looking for a cheap and robust, ready-made model for simulation games.
