Valise

1914 Pattern Leather Equipment with Valise.

Valise (Fr.; suitcase), the large pack first introduced with the British 1871 Valise equipment, which replaced the 1808–71 Infantry Knapsack Equipments. The Valise would be worn in Full Marching Order, but it was usually left in unit transport. Cf. Valise porte-manteau.
