Raketenjagdpanzer 1 Tank Destroyer

Roskopf 1:100 Scale Vehicle Review

Raketenjagdpanzer 1 Tank Destroyer, 1:100 Roskopf 133.

The Roskopf 1:100 scale Raketenjagdpanzer 1 represents the tank destroyer with SS.11 anti-tank guided missile system which entered service with the West German Bundeswehr in 1966. A Panzerjägerzug (Rak) tank destroyer (missile) platoon consisted of four Raketenjagdpanzer 1.

The Raketenjagdpanzer 1 is detailed enough. The periscope can be raised and lowered, and the two PzAbwLRak SS.11 missiles may be dismounted.

Measuring 59 × 27 × 23 mm, the model is clearly too large to be compatible with 1:100 scale. The Raketenjagdpanzer 1 is incompatible with the Roskopf 120 mm Self-Propelled Mortar HS 30 Type 52-3, even though both were based on the HS 30 chassis. It is difficult to understand why Roskopf released a 1:94 scale model when the lack of compatibility must have been obvious before production began.

The Roskopf Raketenjagdpanzer 1 is significantly larger than 1:100 scale models and noticeably smaller than 1:87 scale models; unfortunately, it falls almost exactly between the two. Wargamers and diorama builders are better served by the ROCO Raketenjagdpanzer 1 (ROCO 212).
