Second.

Second (from Latin secundus, “the second”), in both single combat and skirmishes, refers to a man designated to assist another; in the latter, the only difference is that each provides reciprocal support. See firing, skirmishing, etc.

The photo above shows two skirmishers of Freikorps von Trümbach, namely a kneeling firing Büchsenjäger, seconded by a Bajonettjäger, and their soutien in close formation. These 40 mm Prince August homecast tin soldiers have had their siskin green coats and rose madder facings painted with artist acrylic paints.
